The word “yoga” brings to mind images of extremely flexible, graceful people in intricate poses. Oftentimes, one might imagine these people on the beach or in a tranquil jungle. While yoga can be practiced anytime, anywhere, it can also be practiced––and enjoyed––by anyone! Many of us assume that yoga is only for professionals or for those with a natural knack for flexibility and balance. That’s not true, and we want to tell you why yoga is right for you!
Everyone has to Start Somewhere
There’s a reason why yoga studios offer a variety of classes! Each individual has their own preference and also different strengths and weaknesses. There are also classes which cater to first-timers and beginners. Our instructors are happy to help you and explain every position so that you can give it your best shot.
Yoga is supposed to be relaxing! It’s important to go into the class with an open mind and a positive attitude. Remember that everyone around you is still learning and that they’re all focused on their own progress. There are no judgments in yoga and its encouraging and positive nature will allow you to improve your skills worry-free.
Practice Makes Great!
There is no such thing as perfect, and yoga is not about perfection. It’s about being mindful and increasing your connection with your body. There’s a few things you can do at home to ease any worries you may have, improve your skills, and relax outside of the studio!
- Find online tutorials – There is no shortage of yoga tutorials online, and you will be able to introduce yourself to some basic poses before going to your first class. These will help you to get comfortable and boost your confidence beforehand. We recommend that you move on to the more advanced poses in a studio, though!
- Stretch at home – If you want to improve your flexibility, you may wish to try doing some stretches in the privacy of your home. Make sure that you are on a yoga mat, carpet, or other soft surface. A good time to stretch is right after you get out of the shower, as your muscles will be warmed up.
It’s important to remind yourself that anyone can do yoga, and anyone can benefit from it! Positions can be modified if you have an injury or other issue, and you only need to do what feels right for you. It’s all about getting in touch with your mind, body, and spirit. Ignore any stereotypes or myths you may believe, and give it a chance! We are happy to show you why yoga is a great choice for you.
